Biography
I’m Sara Ramírez, a passionate violist from Spain, currently living in London. My love for music started at the age of 7, and I’m one of the few violists who began playing the viola right away instead of the violin, a rarity among violists!. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Madrid, but I felt the need to explore new opportunities, so I moved to London to pursue my Master’s at the Royal Academy of Music. Studying with Paul Silverthorne opened my mind and enriched my understanding of music.
I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to perform in concerts throughout London and various cities in
Spain. I truly enjoy collaborating with other musicians, and I’ve played in different groups, including string quartets, trios, and piano ensembles. I’m also part of the Duo of Violas Guarneri, and each performance brings new excitement and inspiration. It’s a joy to connect with fellow musicians who become friends through our shared passion for music.
Orchestral music is especially close to my heart. Since I was a child, I’ve played in different
orchestras and traveled to perform in various countries. A recent highlight was playing with the Royal Opera House of Spain. In March 2023, I recorded with the Royal Academy of Music’s soloist
ensemble at the Britten Studio—an amazing experience that deepened my love for playing in groups and confirmed my desire to focus on orchestral music in my career.
Every step of my musical journey has shaped who I am today, and I’m excited to see where my passion for the viola will take me next. I’m thrilled to start this new chapter with Sinfonia Smith Square!
