Spain has been a rich inspiration to poets, composers and artists for centuries.
This concert traces the musical fruits of that inspiration from the Renaissance to the present day.
At the heart of the program sits Toros, a new concerto for percussion and orchestra by James Larter. Drawing from the works of Pablo Picasso and Pablo Neruda, this world premiere performance promises virtuosic fireworks, playfulness and all the vivid colour of Picasso’s art and Neruda’s poetry.
Tracing the Spanish connection back in time we discover the ethereal harmonies of Renaissance master Tomás Luis de Victoria alongside the baroque exuberance of Boccherini’s ‘House of the Devil’, and works from the 20th century.
