Ben Collyer, Sinfonia Smith Square's Organ Fellow, explores a world of instrumental timbres.
This programme, curated in collaboration with Sinfonia Smith Square percussionist Massimo Martone & Guzheng player Kang Yang, spans centuries and genres, from the quiet introspection of Duruflé’s Sicilienne to the radiant sonority of Cecilia McDowall’s Church Bells Beyond the Stars.
Florence Price’s enchanting An Elf on a Moonbeam offers a moment of playful delicacy, while Vierne’s luminous Clair de lune casts an impressionistic glow. The concert is bookeneded by two meditative works – Creston’s duet for marimba and organ, and a new Meditation for Guzheng and Organ, introduced by Kang Yang.
This is a rare opportunity to hear instruments in unexpected, thrilling conversation.
