Since 2002, Sinfonia Smith Square has travelled to the Italian town of Anghiari for a week-long music festival.
Set in the Tuscan countryside, Anghiari is a medieval town enclosed in 13th century walls. With its narrow streets, stone houses, colourful balconies, and views of the Tuscan hills, it is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
With a range of choral, chamber, and symphonic repertoire, musicians from Sinfonia Smith Square performed an array of works. From Puccini’s Messa di Gloria alongside The Parliament Choir and Anghiari Festival Chorus, to symphonies by Beethoven and Brahms, string quartets by Debussy, and concertos by Bruch and Rachmaninoff, Anghiari’s piazzas, churches, and cloisters were filled with music.
Sinfonia Smith Square, The Parliament Choir, and Anghiari Festival Chorus, performed Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, followed by Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with soloist Karen Kuronuma, in Chiesa del Carmine – a 16th century church nestled in the Tuscan countryside.
