Biography
I am delighted to have been chosen as the very first Organ Fellow with Sinfonia Smith Square. I first started to learn the organ when I was singing as a treble in my local church choir. I had been playing the piano for many years already at that point, but I was drawn by complexity of the instrument and wanted to find out how it worked. I went to Chetham’s School of Music for my sixth form years where I studied with Christopher Stokes and gained my Associateship of the Royal College of Organists.
I then studied academic music at the University of Oxford for three years, where I was also the Organ Scholar at Christ Church Cathedral. This involved playing regularly for services at the cathedral and teaching the choristers.
I started studying for a Masters in Performance at the Royal College of Music in 2021 where I was supported by the Newton Scarth Scholarship. I graduated from the RCM in 2024 with a distinction. Alongside my studies at the RCM I was also Organ Scholar at St Paul’s Cathedral from 2021-22, where I was involved in the national Platinum Jubilee Service for HM Queen Elizabeth II.
I have since worked as a freelance organist and collaborative pianist in London and have recently been appointed as the Assistant Director of Music at St Michael Cornhill.
I find that music is an incredibly useful outlet for me. There is nothing more rewarding than trying as many different interpretive choices as possible and moulding a piece into a product that shows your own unique sound and personality. I am very excited to see what this year brings, and to work with wonderful new colleagues.
