Biography

When I was 4, my mum asked if I wanted to learn piano, since I liked to sit on my sister’s leg when she was practising. The only problem was, most children my age knew how to play the piano, so it was really hard to get any recognition unless you played brilliantly and got a lot of awards. Therefore, when I was 6 or 7, my sister suddenly said, “sis, the cello is so cool why don’t you learn that!” So I said yes, without knowing what the instrument was. I picked it up, and liked it, and after 2 or 3 months, my teacher asked me to join a competition and I got the 2nd prize. After that, she recommended me play in a cello quartet which inspired me to want to become a musician in the future.

After my Bachelor’s, I got into the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, a place that was surrounded by music, which I loved as my previous school didn’t focus on music too much. While there, I joined different chamber groups, like string quartets and piano trios, and received masterclasses and coaching from renowned quartets. I loved playing in the pit and always wished to play with the ballet dancers. I also joined the opera, playing the solo continuo in Mozart’s Idomeneo, and became one of the soloists for the dance school’s project.

Travelling around as a musician has always been my dream. I have been invited to the Central Eastern Europe Tour as the tutti player of the Hong Kong String Orchestra, performing in Algren’s, Naoussa, Sofia, Belgrade and Bucharest while I am having my Master’s Degree in the Royal Academy of Music. As a pop music lover, I have also participated in a string orchestra, collaborating with famous HK pop singer, Hins Cheung, at Royal Albert Hall, and recently collaborating with Ian Chan, a member of an HK group – Mirror.

In my freetime, you will probably find me cooking, searching for good restaurants in London or annoying my friends (in the UK or over the phone in Hong Kong XD).
